An Open Love Letter

I am in love with you,

the hearts that beat for others,

the people that stop to look at the stars.

I am in love with you,

the bodies covered in scars,

those who can’t get out of bed without a coffee.

I am in love with you,

the people who don’t say please,

the ones who are what those around them need.

I am in love with you,

those who feel love so deeply it hurts,

those who cover up wounds.

I am in love with you,

Because I am you.

Dominique LaBranche

Dominique LaBranche is a current junior Criminal Justice major with a creative writing minor from Amherst, MA. Creative writing is a constant for her to navigate life. It acts as the much needed light and creative outlet amidst her major work. She finds the most joy in bridging the gap between the world of social justice and writing as a means of communication and expression. Writing is often the easiest way for her to express her feelings. Most poems submitted to The Alden Street Review this year were poems originally she wrote as gifts to friends.
